I wrote my first solo cello piece. Now what?

I've been on my creative freelance journey for about two and a half years now, and only recently have I accomplished a previously unimaginable goal: writing a solo cello piece. It sounds simple, but after a year-long hiatus from composition, it actually took a lot of convincing for me to even consider myself a composer worthy of a commission. I have been heavily focussed on growing my professional career and skills as an audio engineer (hence the name of my website lol!) that my creative, musical, and playful self had to step back a bit.
However, if there was anything I learned from 2025, it's this:
I am more capable than my mind leads me to believe.
I was so close to hesitating and saying "no" to that gig last September, but thankfully, I still had enough faith in myself to believe that I could somehow deliver and make it work. Four months and four consultation meetings later, I finished the piece. It was performed in a recital by Karen Cortez, a cool cellist and awesome collaborator. Below is the score and the recording from the recital on 31 January 2026.
Alright. Yay Congrats! So what's next?
Well the answer to that is...
I don't really know.
Ask as many creatives as you can, and I'm certain they will all say that working in the creative industries is full of uncertainty and feelings of stagnation. But all I know right now is that I am in need of a creative release, so that will be my focus this year. Whether I'm creating for myself or creating with and for others, it will be one of my top priorities for 2026—apart from getting a job to support myself, of course.
Stay tuned for updates, I guess? Even if you don't, thanks for reading anyway!
